Mango

FamilyAnacardiaceae.

Where does it grow? India.

DescriptionMango is a large, spreading, evergreen tree with a very dense crown, grown indoors as a shrub. The leaves are dense, hard, glossy, oblong-lanceolate, dark green, up to 30 cm long. Young leaves often have a burgundy tint. During the flowering period, large, branched racemes with many small yellow flowers appear at the tops of the shoots. After flowering, the trees produce oblong, green, edible fruits that turn yellow, orange, red, or purple as they ripen.

Height. In nature, the mango tree reaches a height of 30 m. In indoor culture, young specimens up to 2 m in height are kept. Mango grows quickly.

Care at home

Reproduction

Vaccinations and seeds. Seeds are planted in late spring in a moist mixture of peat and garden soil. Seedlings are kept at a temperature of about 25 ° C under a glass or plastic cover. Germination occurs within 3-4 weeks.

Growing

Mango is not a very demanding plant and is quite easy to grow indoors.

Diseases and pests

If the soil lacks nutrients, the tree will look weak, its leaves will become smaller, and overall growth will slow down. If exposed to direct sunlight, the leaves may become burned.

Pests rarely appear on the plant.

Transplanting

Mango grows quickly and has a large, deep root system; young shrubs require annual replanting. For large adult specimens, change the top layer of soil to fresh one annually.

Mango

Growing conditions - temperature

It can be kept at normal room temperature during the spring and summer months. In autumn, the bush goes into a dormant state, and in the winter months it is transferred to a cool room with a temperature of about 15 ° C.

Soil

Nutritious, loose soil, well permeable to moisture and air.

Fertilizer

Feed with liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season.

Watering

Young plants require regular watering; with age, mangoes become more tolerant of minor droughts. In spring and summer, keep the soil evenly moist; be sure to drain excess moisture that appears in the pan after watering. In autumn, reduce the frequency of watering and in winter, be sure to dry the soil to half its depth.

Mango

Lighting

Well-lit location without direct sun on hot summer days. In autumn and winter, especially in cloudy weather, lighting should be maximum.

When it blooms

The end of winter - the beginning of spring.

Spraying

Representatives of the species love high air humidity - place a room humidifier next to the pot or spray the leaves with soft water at room temperature.

Purpose

A large tub plant for landscaping large spaces.

Note

The mango fruit is edible, but other parts of the bush contain toxic substances and can cause contact dermatitis - protect your hands when pruning and replanting. With good care, it can live indoors for many years.
