Home care
Temperature conditions
In the daytime, the air temperature should be 21-24° C, with a decrease at night to 15-18° C. At a higher maintenance temperature, it is necessary to increase the humidity of the air and increase the frequency of watering.
Lighting
Bright location with shading during summer days. If there is insufficient natural light, additional illumination with fluorescent lamps is possible.
Care
Not the easiest plant for indoor culture, suitable mainly for experienced orchidists.
Orchid substrate
Fibrous soil consisting of sphagnum moss, fern fibers, small pieces of pine bark with the addition of charcoal. To improve drainage, use coarse river sand or perlite. The soil should have an acidic pH.
Top dressing
Fertilizers for orchids, diluted to half the recommended dose every 2 weeks during the growing season.
Flowering time
March-April, each bud remains open for 10-20 days, flowers open sequentially.
Air humidity
High - about 50% or more. The air should remain humid at any time of year. Place the plant pot on a tray with wet pebbles or use a room humidifier. Spraying with tap water can leave unsightly white spots on the leaves. Ensure sufficient air circulation around the leptotes.
Watering orchids at home
Water abundantly during the active growth period, but allow the soil to dry out between waterings. In the warm season, periodically the pot with the plant can be immersed in a large container of warm water for a few minutes. In autumn, the frequency of watering is reduced and rarely watered in winter, making sure that pseudobulbs do not shrink.
Transfer
Leptotes do not tolerate transplantation well and take a long time to recover after it, try transplanting the plant into another pot or simply changing the top layer of soil. Transplant only when necessary, in the spring.
Reproduction
Division when transplanting.
Pests and diseases
From harmful insects, the flower can be attacked by mealybug.
